A New York Times bestseller!

Cofounder of the international beauty company Caudalíe shares the simple, natural, time-tested beauty secrets she learned growing up in France that any woman can use to look younger, healthier, and more radiant without harsh products or drastic procedures.

When Mathilde Thomas moved from her native France to the United States to expand her skin-care company, Caudalíe, she wanted to find out what American women wanted from their beauty routines. She interviewed thousands of women and was struck by how different the French and American approaches to beauty were. American women are all about the quick fix—the elusive product or procedure that will instantly solve a nagging beauty problem, even if it hurts, is wildly expensive, or is damaging in the long term. The French, by contrast, approach beauty as an essential and pleasurable part of the day, a lifelong and active investment that makes you look and feel good.

Mathilde used these insights to turn Caudalíe into one of America’s top beauty brands. Drawing on her company’s twenty years of scientific skin-care expertise backed by the research of doctors and dermatologists—as well as the beauty secrets she learned growing up on a vineyard in Bordeaux—
The French Beauty Solution covers everything from how to use natural ingredients such as oil and honey to wash your face; what foods to eat for healthier hair, skin, and nails; and the amazing properties of grapes and grapeseed oil. She also introduces an easy three-day grape cleanse that European aristocrats have been using to detox for hundreds of years. Blending stories, science, DIY recipes, and tons of savoir faire, The French Beauty Solution is the last beauty regimen you’ll ever need..

Great book for fun lessons on French beauty philosophy!
Reviewed in the United States on 11-12-2020
I read this whole book and really enjoyed it. Like many people in the reviews I have used Caudalie's products, which is how I stumbled across this book, but I was most interested in hearing more about French beauty in general. I loved the beginning two thirds of the book that were dedicated to examining the difference in French and American beauty philosophies, discussing beauty at different ages, and the important things we can do for our skin outside of product related recommendations. And all this was done within a casual playful dialogue.

I didn't love the last third of the book which focused on at home remedies and recipes as these can be quite damaging for everyday people to just assume they can be a chemist and craft their own skin products at home. If you follow any professional advice from a Dermatologist or Esthetician, most will agree that messing around with putting the condiments and herbs in your fridge directly onto your skin and face is a one way ticket to potential skin damage and irritation. So I took away one star because of that risk factor, especially because the author works in the skincare industry and should know better.

All in all though it was a great book that I would recommend to others (and have), just take the at home recipes with caution as there's a reason things are created and tested in labs and using science. And to all the people who felt it was 'snobbish' or 'pretentious'... I suspect they just take things personally and are easily offended. If you can't read anything about how other cultures differ from our American culture without personally taking offense I think that says more about the reader than the author.

I quite enjoyed the Kindle version I purchased

To the negative reviewer, I'm certainly not a paid reviewer. I quite enjoyed the Kindle version I purchased. Yes, I've seen some of this advice before; I've gotten preoccupied with a busy life and frankly forgot some of the simple, sensible routines and pleasures in the book that I used to take time for. I'm glad I refreshed my own routine. I see the difference in my demeanor and attitude after one week. I also didn't feel the tone was condescending; playful, yes, a bit of Gallic humor, yes, but I am friends and work with several French and also European folks, so the tone of the book was not an issue for me.

Overall, the book is very good, certainly biased to Ms. Thomas' company's products and a French take on life and beauty - but that shouldn't be a surprise to any reader. She believes in the benefit of Caudalie products. They are excellent products. The book reminded me of the pleasure and results that come with taking care of yourself, not taking regimes and 'diets' too seriously, and laying a good foundation for health and beauty. I found it quite worthwhile and will recommend to my friends.

This book makes it easy to understand quality skin care!
Reviewed in the United States on 05-25-2016
I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about skin care and products to try and products to avoid. Yes, there is some shameless plugs for this particular brand of cosmetics, but really, what do you expect? The author owns her own company and mentions some of her products. You know what that tells me? It tells me that she produces skin care products that she really believes in and does the job they are supposed to do. You don't have to use her brand, if you don't want to - I'm sure there are other products out there with the same components that would produce a similar effect. But this book is written in a way that me, a non-scientist, can understand why certain ingredients are used and understand what they actually do to your skin. I truly enjoyed the read and will probably refer back to this book when I purchase any cosmetics in the future. If anything, the book has made me more aware of what I put on my skin. And that's a good thing..
