Zoey loves spending the summer with her Aunt Alice, and her aunt's new house is the perfect place to cozy up with a good book. But she's unnerved by the overgrown forest next door, which is creepy even in the daytime and full of eerie sounds at night.

Worse, there are rumors in town of a dark force in those woods. And Zoey can't deny that the wild black cats who live there seem to be watching her.

When she encounters a mean old woman who claims to be their owner, Zoey realizes there's more to the cats than meets the eye. But little does she know that the closer she comes to discovering their secret, the more danger she's in . . .

What a magical, thrilling mystery story that kept me on the edge of my seat! Zoey loves spending the summer with her Aunt Alice, & her aunt's new house is the perfect place to cozy up with a good book. But she's unnerved by the overgrown forest next door, which is creepy even in the daytime & full of eerie sounds at night. Worse, there are rumors in town of a dark force in those woods. And Zoey can't deny that the wild black cats who live there seem to be watching her. When she encounters a mean old woman who claims to be their owner, Zoey realizes there's more to the cats than meets the eye. But little does she know that the closer she comes to discovering their secret, the more danger she's in. The whole backstory of the woman on the woods, & the cats is so intriguing. I loved the friendship that forms between Zoey & Lila, though Lila did annoy me many different times. The cats themselves & the numbers & what everything actually means..never saw coming. Such a creepy story with bravery, friendship & more. The ending was satisfying in some ways, & in 1 way not satisfying for me. Really had a great time though, & flew through this. BEAUTIFUL cover by Jeff Huang too.💜.

I think I’m going to enjoy reading the 13th cat. Mary downing Hahn has a lot of really good books. I think I have most of her things except for one called Guest, that one is really different from her other books. But the 13th cat looks closer to what I like for her writing. If your kids like Ghost stories, mysteries and stuff that takes place in certain time periods, then they would like some of her books. I’m sure if you go online you can find a list of her books and find what your kids would like to read from her books..
